Project 3: artist statement

For my final project, the daydream project, I decided to go with my initial sims idea. The fist half of the video started out with me just playing a game on the computer, but then my stomach growls so I go to make some food. I get distracted with my roommate, who is watching "The Truman Show" and we get caught up talking about being in a simulation. I get tired and doze off, which is when the dreaming starts. My dream is that I am in a sims game and my roommate is controlling my every move - what I wear, where I live, what I do. I wake up and realize it was a dream and say that I hated it. I really liked my idea for my project and I think I executed it pretty well. Some critiques that were made were about incorporating more animations such as moving the sim and adding sim bubbles, etc. I appreciate the feedback, however with the amount of time given I barely finished the animation on time, so if there was more time I was absolutely going to add more. Something else I would have done differently, if I could have figured it out, was have the ending include the sim (me) cooking and the stove catching on fire and then the sim dies. I tried to include that, except I couldn't figure out how to force my sim to mess up cooking. There are so many little cliche sim moments I wish I could have included, but with the amount of time I had to complete the project, I am very happy with how it turned out. Me and my roommate will also now have a video to look back and laugh at.
